Extensive adoption of built-environment greenery in a two million-person city, like greater Brisbane, could capture at least 100,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.
This is a calculation derived from a two-year study from Michigan State University, reported in October, 2009. Prior to this study, there was no major analysis of the true carbon saving impact of urban green roofs or green walls.

Innovation is a process as well as a product and is distinct from invention. The innovation process is the “99% perspiration” that follows the “1% inspiration” of creating the idea- ie inventing- in the first place. Of course creativity is essential to start the process, then it’s the perspiration of applying both intellect and experience to bring the idea to fruition.

Thermal insulation – reducing fossil fuel energy use in heating and cooling of buildings. Green roofs can save at least 7% to 8% of heating or cooling costs of buildings in thermal insulation. Green wall advantages are similar, and are being documented. Extra thermal insulation comes from a combination of standard insulation plus the depth of 10cm to 20cm of greenery and substrate.
