Minister Garrett’s announcement of support for business affected by changes to insulation and solar hot water rebates has been welcomed by the WA Sustainable Energy Association Inc. (WA SEA), Australia’s largest state-based business chamber for the sustainable energy industry.

The Australian Solar Energy Society released a press release on behalf of the industry, in response to claims that 2,000 homes were at risk of burning down due to faulty PV solar installations.

This paper comprises four parts: the first is a personal account of discovering rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems in South America. The second part is a review of the present status of rooftop PV policy and applications in Australia. The third part is a summary of the global status of PV production and the fourth part is some conjecture regarding the future for PV. The paper is written in the hope of improving the rationale for use of PVs everywhere. Here is Part 1.
