Even in great adversity, there are opportunities.
This is a very balanced overview of what can be done to improve the future of the flooded areas. However, the sense of shock and disbelief is still uppermost in our minds.
In the months ahead when re-building is discussed, the points made by Prof. Wills should be brought to the table.

This is a classic case of a culture of thinking at a government to keep the materialistic energy consuming system going longer to somehow placate the electorate and the business as usual lobby group who are seemingly in denial of Climate Change and its economic consequences. This disaster is an opportunity to innovate make changes and step up investment in passive solar design and renewable energy systems so the frequency of such occurrences are kept stable and the damage limited in the future for designing our built environment to deal with future floods. the same goes for droughts

Global warming in full swing, the cause perhaps debateable but this way or another it is time to wake up and do something about it before it is too late. Floods in Queensland are tragic but the news are full with floods everywhere which is scary. Who is next? We do have clean energy alternatives, let’s consider and use them now

Absolutely Andreas. we have wasted too much time already. The technology and new jobs are there to help economies to make a transition to a new solar economy that will last till the end of time. As usual politicians and also the general public are running behind the reality what is happening.

This is an excellent call from Prof Ray Wills to take the opportunity to rebuild things in a way that make sense environmentally. I just hope his voice will be heard by people who’s got the power to make those changes happen.

Ray Wills is a powerful advocate for sustainable energy as he actually comprehensively understands climate change and what it will do to the world environmentally and the resulting socio-economic consequences of further procrastination by governments to keep the investment flowing into a sustainable built environment and its energy supplies systems.
