A desperate need of Indigenous Cultures beyond the main problems of:
- destruction of their native lands and natural environment
- health problems and neglect from governments and bureaucracy
- genocide in some cases
- deliberate and/or unintentional destruction of their language
- decimation of their culture
- disrespect of their achievements
- spiritual damage
- dysfunctional behavior, exasperated by alcohol and drug abuse
is the access to modern technology that can maintain contact with the modern world and allow them to develop the skill of remaining proud and culturally strong. At the same time there is a need for them to integrate into the national economy of their region and have an informed say, politically, spiritually and environmentally. Use of a remote power and environmental system is an excellent way of helping to achieve such a goal.
By professionals getting involved in all aspects such as:
- Appropriate building programs
- Solar power & communication systems
- Permaculture techniques
- Health programs
- Art and cultural pursuits
- Job creation based on their cultural strengths
- Equal opportunity to education and training
we are showing how appropriate remote and environmental technologies can be applied to human settlements in a sustainable way.
So, by helping indigenous cultures we are indirectly gaining valuable insight on how the modern world can approach human settlements in future generations.
Helping indigenous populations helps us promote sustainable energy.
The indigenous populations in the world lived in harmony with the environment developing economic, social and spiritual philosophy that were compatible.
With the spread and dominance of material thinking of the western European culture many of these people have suffered greatly over the past 200 years as their homelands have been invaded and destroyed.
The harmonious relationships with Mother Nature is a lesson that the Modern World could take inspiration in the campaign to save the planet from environmental destruction.
It does not make sense to continue the genocide by neglect, apathy or ambivalence let alone the all too often premeditated attack on those wonderfully evolved cultures of the past.
Indigenous Cultures of Australia
The Indigenous cultures of Australia are the oldest living cultural history in the world. They go back 50,000 to 65,000 years. One of the reasons Aboriginal cultures have survived for so long is their ability to adapt and change over time.
Land is fundamental to the well-being of Aboriginal people. The land is not just soil or rocks or minerals, but a whole environment that sustains and is sustained by people and culture. “We cultivated our land, but in a way different from the white man. We endeavoured to live with the land; they seemed to live off it. I was taught to preserve, never to destroy” (Aborigine Tom Dystra).
Traditional Indigenous architecture was domestic, across a range of well crafted and technologically designed shelters and residential camps. These varied from temporary windbreaks and wiltjas (shelters) of stringybark or paperbark to substantial round houses thatched with grass for large families. The new architecture of the 21st century designed by university-trained Indigenous architects has reflected the desires and standing of community life that reflect upon change and identity.
Aboriginal communities can be supported with PV systems for electricity and communication.
